This weekend, I won an Emmy for my role in Surviving an Active Shooter, which I wrote, directed, and co-produced. The video won the Independent Programming category at the 68th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards at the new Television Academy theater in North Hollywood.
This is a video that was intended to help save lives, and I’m happy to have been a part of it, and happy for this recognition.
I also like to think the video is a solid piece of storytelling. It had every opportunity to slip into your standard sort of dry, PSA safety message. But I approached it like a horror movie, and tried to create characters that viewers could connect to. I think we learn better when we feel, and when we care. I think it came out well, and I’m tremendously pleased that the Television Academy agreed.
